Riverside Ca Historical Prospect Place The city and community of Riverside california has a long and proud history. As an early center of wealth due to the huge orange groves this area was known for, Riverside has an architectural history that starts before the turn of the century. The Prospect Place Historic District was actually the first real residential area in riverside, and was designated in 1888. Over the years the area became home to wonderfully crafted homes that reflected the major styles of the early 1900s. You can find several Queen Anne victorian homes in this district, with strong asymetrical features, patterned shingles, beautiful bay style windows. You will see Mission revival homes, as well as several Colonial revival homes that look like they were pluck up off the eastern seaboard.
